The first event of the 2B-BLUE project in Spain will be held at the University of Murcia on November 28th.

The University of Murcia (UMU) coordinates the European project 2B-BLUE (Boosting the Blue Biotechnology Community in the Mediterranean) co-financed by the Interreg Euro-MED program, an initiative aimed at strengthening blue biotechnology in the Mediterranean region. This project involves ten partners from six countries (Spain, France, Slovenia, Italy, Italy, Albania and Greece) and seeks to capitalize on the achievements of the previous project, B-Blue, to promote the sustainable development of the sector.

The main objective of 2B-BLUE is to identify and disseminate best practices and key players in blue biotechnology, thus creating a system that promotes innovation in this area. To this end, the project foresees the establishment of Demonstration Centers (DS) and Transformative Labs (T-Labs), which will act as experimentation points for emerging technologies. This approach will bridge the gap between research and industry, facilitating the adaptation of new technologies that contribute to the preservation of the marine environment.

In addition, the project will develop six Blue Biotechnology Hubs (BBHub), one in each participating country, which will be key to facilitating knowledge transfer and collaboration in the bioeconomy and blue biotechnology (BBt) sector. These strategic alliances between public and private actors also seek to improve regional policies, promoting sustainability and research and innovation capacities in the Euro-Mediterranean region.

Next Thursday, November 28, the University of Murcia will present the first T-Lab in Spain in an event organized in collaboration with the Centro Tecnológico Naval y del Mar. This meeting, which will be held in the auditorium of the Pleiades Building on the Espinado Campus, aims to present the 2B-BLUE project to the community of actors on BBt in Spain, to publicize the pilot actions that will be carried out and to encourage public-private collaboration in the implementation of these initiatives.
