29 Jan The WP1 leaders were interviewed on Cadena SER to talk about GVA-ThinkInAzul.
José Tena Medialdea, a researcher at the Catholic University of Valencia (UCV1), and Josep E. Pardo-Pascual, from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV6), participated in the program A Vivir on Cadena SER to present the progress and objectives of the GVA-ThinkInAzul project.
During the interview, both experts emphasized the importance of oceanographic and benthic monitoring along the Valencian coast as an essential tool for understanding and protecting the region’s marine ecosystems. This effort is part of a comprehensive strategy that brings together over 300 scientists from different institutions, all committed to developing innovative solutions to combat climate change and environmental degradation.
One of the project’s key highlights is the development of advanced monitoring instruments, such as systems applied to reefs, as well as improvements in tools for studying phenomena like the arrival of invasive exotic species. These advancements not only help anticipate ecological impacts but also propose concrete measures to mitigate their effects and preserve marine biodiversity. However, GVA-ThinkInAzul goes beyond the scientific sphere: it also aims to foster citizen participation and, in particular, engage younger generations in marine conservation. According to Tena Medialdea and Pardo-Pascual, one of the project’s greatest strengths lies in its ability to raise awareness and mobilize society around the protection of the Mediterranean, an ecosystem that is crucial both locally and globally.
The project’s commitment to sustainability and education aligns with the efforts of the Generalitat Valenciana to lead transformative initiatives in the fight against climate change.
