Group UA4

University of Alicante

A multidisciplinary team comprised of a core group of biologists, biochemists, and marine ecologists, supported by mathematicians, sociologists, economists, and lawyers. They have extensive experience in the field of marine ecology and the effects of anthropogenic pollutants on marine systems, as well as in the modeling of biological and bioeconomic systems, the blue economy, and the legal protection of the marine environment. One of the group's main activities is the monitoring of physical, chemical, and biological parameters in the area where the field laboratory of the Ramon Margalef Multidisciplinary Institute for Environmental Studies (MarLab UA-Dénia) of the University of Alicante is located. The team conducts studies ranging from plankton—including jellyfish—to emerging pollutants and invasive species, to ocean current analysis, fishing data analysis, and recovery proposals.
