University of Alicante

The research team, comprised of members of the Department of Marine Sciences and Applied Biology at the University of Alicante, has over 20 years of experience studying the environmental and socioeconomic interactions of open-ocean aquaculture. We have worked on multiple aspects such as: the influence of facilities on the fish community, benthos, and plankton; the impact of escaped fish; exotic species; ecosystem services; site selection; carrying capacity; and environmental monitoring.

Our research approach seeks to detect and quantify environmental imbalances that can be resolved through applied science, as well as to study future scenarios of global change to increase the resilience of aquaculture. At ThinkinAzul, we aim to contribute our expertise to ensure aquaculture grows in an orderly, socio-environmentally sustainable manner, ready to face the challenges of global change.
