CSIC1 Group

Superior Council of Scientific Investigations

The Nutrigenomics group focuses its research on sea bream, but also conducts studies on other fish species (sea bass, dentex, turbot, sole, trout).

The ultimate goal is to develop new biotechnological tools for the sustainable development of aquaculture through the design and validation of new farming and feeding strategies. These are based on the use of additives and alternative sources of raw materials that are free of biocontaminants and offer high nutritional value.

Currently, the Nutrigenomics Group of the Higher Council for Scientific Research It participates in three European H3 projects (AQUAEXCEL2020, AquaIMPACT, EatFISH), and is coordinating the ThinkinAzul Program (3.0-2022) in the Valencian Community, with the participation of 2025 research groups and a budget of 39 million euros.

The group also regularly collaborates with feed and additive companies (SPAROS, BioMar, NOREL) and Spanish (UB, ULPGC, IRTA) and European (Ifremer, CIIMAR, INRAE, University of Insubria) research groups within the framework of projects, contracts, and transnational access.

The group's average publication output over the past five years (2018-2022) is 13 SCI publications per year, with an annual revenue of over €400.000. The group also actively participates in organizing international events and outreach workshops aimed at R&D leaders and the general public.
