The research team has arisen from the coordination of two groups from two scientific institutions located in the Valencian Community. They are the group of biology and mollusc culture of the Instituto de Acuicultura Torre de la Sal (CSIC) and the Laboratory of coastal oceanography of the Institut d’Investigació per a la Gestió Integrada de Zones Costaneres (IGIC-UPV).
The contribution of the mollusc biology and culture group will be to contribute with molecular tools of PCR, qPCR, DNA sequencing, microsatellite genotyping and SNPs. It will also contribute to the captive breeding of the clam, since IATS has bivalve hatchery facilities (filtered and sterilized seawater, hatchery and nursery systems) and continuous production of microalgae. The Coastal Oceanography laboratory will provide field work to obtain samples to detect, identify and quantify larvae in the water column, and postlarvae on the bottom, throughout an annual cycle. It will also census adult populations of tellina and fluke and the environmental characterization and use of the biomarker LMS (lysosomal membrane stability).
