XII Coastal Geomorphology Conference (GeoLitT24)

The XII Coastal Geomorphology Conference (GeoLitT24) was held in Valencia from September 25 to 27. The organization was in charge of the Group of Geoenvironmental Cartography and Remote Sensing (CGAT) of the Department of Cartographic Engineering, Geodesy and Photogrammetry of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV6). The conference was sponsored by the GVA-ThinkInAzul program in which CGAT researchers participate in WP1.

The conference brought together 70 specialists in different coastal environment topics, including the analysis of geomorphological forms and processes in sedimentary environments, rocky environments, coastal dynamics, marine geomorphology, coastal platform and regional analysis, coastal management, vulnerability and risks in the coastal environment, and applications of remote sensing to coastal geomorphology. The inaugural lecture “A geomorphological Approach to Coastline Health” was given by Professor Andrew Cooper of Ulster University.

The presentation sessions of scientific papers were held in the Assembly Hall of the School of Geodetic, Cartographic and Topographic Engineering of the UPV, and two field trips were made to publicize the Valencian coast and the existing problems. Thus, on Thursday, September 26, the attendees visited different points of the coast of Valencia-Castellón, such as Grau Vell in Sagunt, Prat de Cabanes-Torreblanca, and Almenara, while on Friday 27 they visited the beaches of Dénia and Oliva, Tavernes de la Valldigna, and l’Albufera de València. From the congress website(https://geolit24.webs.upv.es) it is possible to download the book of proceedings of the conference.
